Beerometer — Privacy Policy

Overview

Beerometer is a personal drink-tracking app for iPhone and Apple Watch, built by Chris Legge. This page explains what data the app collects, how it's stored, and what control you have over it.

What the app collects

Log entries. Each time you log a drink, the app records the date and time. This data is stored in your own private iCloud account (via Apple's CloudKit), synced only between your own devices. It is never sent to Chris Legge, any server operated by Chris Legge, or any third party.

Location (optional). If you grant location permission, each log entry also stores the GPS coordinates at the time of logging, used solely to show the in-app map of where you've been drinking. This is entirely optional — the app works fully without granting location access — and this data is stored the same way as log entries: privately, in your own iCloud account.

Leaderboard (optional). If you choose to join a leaderboard group, the display name you enter, the group code, and your total drink count are stored in a shared (public) database so that others who enter the same group code can see them. Do not enter a group code, or use identifying information as your display name, if you don't want this visible to others with that code. You can leave a group at any time from within the app, which removes your entry from that leaderboard.

What the app does not do

Beerometer does not use analytics or advertising SDKs, does not track you across other apps or websites, and does not sell or share your data with third parties. There is no account creation beyond your existing Apple ID — sign-in is handled entirely by iCloud.

Data storage

All data is stored using Apple's CloudKit, within the app's iCloud container. Private data (your log entries and location) is stored in your personal iCloud account, governed by Apple's own privacy and security practices. Leaderboard data you choose to share is stored in a public CloudKit database accessible to anyone who has the matching group code.

Your control over your data

You can delete individual log entries at any time from within the app. Leaving a leaderboard group removes your entry from that group's board. Deleting the app removes it from your device; your private iCloud data can be managed or removed via your device's Settings app under your Apple ID's iCloud storage settings.

Children

Beerometer references alcohol consumption and is not intended for use by children.
