Datum — Privacy Policy
Overview
Datum is an engineering project notebook for iPad, built by Chris Legge. It is designed to keep everything about a project — ideas, sketches, circuits, CAD models, parts, tests, photos and notes — in one place on your own device.
Datum does not collect any data. It has no account system, no analytics, and no server. Nothing you create in the app is transmitted anywhere.
Where your data is stored
Everything you create in Datum — projects, ideas, sketches, circuit diagrams, imported CAD models, parts lists, budgets, time logs, test plans, photos and notes — is stored locally on your iPad, inside the app's own storage. It is not uploaded to Chris Legge, to any server operated by Chris Legge, or to any third party.
Your data is included in your device's normal encrypted backups if you have iCloud Backup or local backups enabled. That backup is handled entirely by Apple and governed by Apple's own privacy practices.
Camera and photo library
Camera. If you choose to take a build photo from within the app, Datum asks for camera permission. The resulting photo is saved only into your project on this device. The camera is never accessed unless you tap the Camera button.
Photo library. If you import existing photos, iOS presents its own photo picker. Datum receives only the specific images you select and copies them into your project. The app does not read your wider photo library.
Saving and sharing. If you export a sketch, an annotated photo or a project PDF, iOS's standard share sheet appears and you choose where it goes. Datum does not send anything on its own.
Files you import
When you import an STL model, Datum reads the file you pick and stores a copy inside your project. Your original file on disk or in iCloud Drive is left untouched, and no other files are accessed.
What the app does not do
Datum contains no analytics, advertising or tracking SDKs. It does not track you across other apps or websites, does not build a profile of you, does not require or offer an account, and does not sell or share data with anyone. The app makes no network requests.
Your control over your data
You can delete any project, idea, part, test, photo or snapshot from within the app at any time. Deleting the app from your iPad removes all of its data from the device. Because nothing is stored remotely, there is nothing for you to request or for Chris Legge to delete on your behalf.
Children
Datum is a general-purpose engineering notebook and is suitable for all ages. It collects no personal information from anyone, including children.
